What is the food like?
Kyrgyz cuisine is a blend of Kyrgyz, Central Asian, Russian, and Turkish influences. Meals often include meat dishes, hearty soups, fresh bread, and dairy products.
Are vegetarian or vegan options available?
Yes — in Bishkek, Osh, and Karakol, vegetarian and vegan options are available. In rural areas, choices are more limited, but we fully accommodate dietary needs on private and curated journeys. Before your trip, we confirm all preferences to ensure meals are planned accordingly.
Is tap water safe to drink?
Tap water in Bishkek is generally safe, but in the regions we recommend drinking bottled or boiled water. During all our tours, we always carry clean, safe drinking water for guests.
Can I drink water from rivers during treks?
Kyrgyzstan’s rivers and streams often come straight from glaciers and are considered among the cleanest in the world. However, even clear mountain water can contain bacteria or microorganisms. For safety, we recommend using a purifier, filter bottle, or purification tablets before drinking from natural sources.
Is coffee and alcohol available?
Specialty coffee is available in Bishkek, Osh, and Karakol.
Alcohol is widely available throughout the country, though it’s best to be discreet in more conservative areas. On our tours, we always carry good quality coffee, and you’re welcome to bring your preferred blend if you wish.
